The Chapter House - T0842071170What does it mean to be a creator, and what does it take to make (or remake) an art work in and for the digital age? The Chapter House is an interdisciplinary dance piece featuring precise and intricate choreography by Zoi Dimitriou coupled with video installation by Mark Coniglio, inventor of Isadora software and co-director of the group Troika Ranch. This new perspective-shifting collaboration is a seductively ambiguous examination of the acts of performing and documentation. Dimitriou's aim is to expose the processes and mechanics of creation by using digital media to record, re-construct and re-enact a live performance. The Chapter House invites you to gaze back at the body of her work and discover how meaning can be revealed and transformed. | |

In the Process of... - T1519967213In The Process of... is a beautifully crafted new duet in which a man and woman negotiate a series of endings, rather than a single unfolding narrative leading to one inevitable finale. 60 wooden hoops dramatically help and hinder the couple’s relationship on stage - and even at times become the protagonists... The piece draws upon Conlon Nancarrow’s compositional structures and studies into the effect of film figure movement and genre recognition. Dimitriou attempts to weight the quality of the human body against the quality of objects, sound, light and word. By manipulating movement parameters and playing with the myth of ‘the quest’, a play of two emerges as a series of intermezzos to a story never told. | |

Goddessesin Exile/Dromi - T01028013315[Zoe Dimitriou] was awarded the 2008 Robin Howard Foundation Commission to create her new work Goddesses in Exile. A duet for Dimitriou and [Juliette Barton], the piece draws on myth and contemporary fiction to question femininity and the divine. Dimitriou's solo Dromi, created for The Place's 2007 Touch Wood season, is strongly influenced by Greek musical modes and philosophy and tells the story of a loner driven to protest against any form of repression. | |
