Oval House Youth Theatre Company headlines the festival with Suffocation, the new play by Off West End Award-nominated young playwright Arinze Kene. Set at the 20th birthday party of Emeka, as a group of friends experiment with the side effects of suffocation, the play is a gripping one act exploration of the extremities of peer pressure. Fringe First and Herald Angel Award-winning theatre company Bear Trap Theatre Company will share an early work-in-progress presentation of their latest production The Enduring Song, as part of First Bites, Oval House Theatre's on-going series of 'scratch' programmes, showing throughout the Festival. Bear Trap Theatre Company won acclaim at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe for their production Bound. Also featuring will be the acclaimed Dirty Stop Out Productions. As part of the Festival’s commitment to developing the work of young artists, two outstanding directors have been awarded the 33% Bursary, supporting them to stage full productions of their work in the festival. Tuan Ly’s Café Obaasan immerses the audience in the world of Madame Baba’s café- a place of long lost dreams and forgotten hopes. Shape of Clouds directed by Laura Watson unfolds six personal stories of life in the Capital, expressed through dance, movement and voice. Other highlights of the festival include Around the House - a series of seven newly commissioned site-specific short plays from young artists, performed in every nook and cranny of the Oval House Theatre building. 33% Films will showcase the work of young filmmakers in the historic Cinema Museum in Kennington. The evening includes a tour of the Museum prior to the screening, complete with costumed ushers. On press night journalists are invited to attend Around the House followed by Suffocation at 7.45pm. ‘This festival is a great platform that supports and launches young emerging talent into the professional realm. It inspires a new generation of theatre makers and creates a great meeting point for artists to build working relationships. 33% is unique in its approach of putting the organisation and delivery of its festival and projects solely in the hands of young producers, directors and actors.’ - Stef O Driscoll, Festival Producer The festival’s name reflects the fact that 33% of Londoners are under 25.
