62nd aldeburgh Festival - Glitter of Waves
Aldeburgh 2009 The 62nd Aldeburgh Festival, Pierre-Laurent Aimard’s first as Artistic Director, has a programme which both encapsulates his originality and invention, whilst embracing Aldeburgh’s special character and traditions. Artists include names both familiar to Aldeburgh and introduces new ones, with music from an extraordinary breadth of influences and ages, all promising a landmark season. Another landmark is that it is our first Festival with the new rehearsal and performance spaces at Snape Maltings. The Festival will use all four new spaces in the Hoffmann Building – the Britten Studio, Jerwood Kiln Studio, Harry Weinrebe and Foyle Studios – beginning our exploration of the exceptional new artistic opportunities that they allow. This marks the final phase of our project to transform derelict maltings into inspirational spaces for musicians to rehearse, experiment and perform in. Our artist accommodation in Aldeburgh is now in full use and by June 2009 the Dovecote Studio and Information Centre at Snape will be coming on stream and the improvements to the Pumphouse in Aldeburgh will be underway. The final much smaller phase of building – the Trask Artists’ Café – will happen over the winter.
