Amber Films were established in 1969, with the specific intention of creating film and photography relating to the working class communities of the North East of England. Their supremely realist films still have an immediacy and authenticity, highlighting the social concerns of characters and their environment. The Customs House in collaboration with Tyneside Cinema host a series of films from the archives of Amber Films, together with a photographic exhibition of work by Amber photographer Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen.
