arts out west brings poetry, dance, live music, theatre, multi media, visual arts, workshops and cabaret to the heart of Hammersmith. Now in its third year arts out west, a partnership between Coca Cola Great Britain and Riverside s Education Department, celebrates the wealth of creativity and talent in West London. The live programme kicks off at the Irish Centre with the ever popular Celtic Caribbean Crossings (4 Aug) featuring Keith Waithe and the Macusi Players and popular Irish band Hooley - a fusion of Afro Caribbean rhythms with Irish jigs and reels. Riverside regulars Young Blood Theatre Company, Community Culture Music Enterprise Being Theatre and Pulse Dance appear over the two weeks alongside festival newcomers Paradigm Poets and Artists in Exile - the latter presenting a Georgian evening of theatre and music. The highly acclaimed Fru Fru puppets from Slovenia also make a welcome return to the festival with My Umbrella is a Balloon, Too (11 Aug). Urban Art Beating Heart (8 Aug) is a collaboration of spectacular images, bold sculptures and raw live musical talent reflecting the pulse of the city with performances and exhibitions by Godfrey Wilks, Michael Pegolatis and the Random Groove Movement. Dance Hall Days (10 & 11 Aug) directed by Rosalind Scanlon is a large scale Irish community play set in the 1950s and written around stories and memories of Ireland's ballrooms and dance halls. The play has a cast of 60 performers including professional actors and local residents. Following on from last year s success Screen Team, a group of local young people based in White City round off arts out west with Hidden Truth Talent Quest (12 Aug). Lunch in the Park, a new series of platform performances, takes place throughout the festival on St Pauls Green. For full programme information call 02082371030 arts out west is supported by Coca Cola GB
