Sitting within one of the major financial capitals of the world, the Barbican is perfectly positioned to explore issues around money and economics that affect our lives in so many ways. Throughout its history, cinema has celebrated and critiqued money and the financial system, yet never in recent years has it been so apposite to draw on this rich material to explore the themes of power, wealth and poverty, gentrification, corruption, consumerism and the living wage. This major Barbican curated season The Colour of Money, features a wide selection of dramas - including cult horror, musical, western and silent classics - documentaries and archive material as well as panel discussions, ScreenTalks and introductions, plus a Battle of Ideas event asking: Is Inequality Killing London?
