Sonny is in hospital for an operation on his leg, but it's Christmas and he would rather be at home. As he plans his escape Sonny is visited by someone he has never met before who makes friends with him. And this person has very special skills indeed. This new friend, in his own unique way, enchants Sonny with a story of magic spells, a town teeming with rats, people who are selfish and the significance of breaking a promise.
