When a young man falls in love with a princess, their forbidden romance sparks the wrath of the king. To punish the illicit lovers, the king devises a trial that forces the young man to choose between two doors. Behind one door lies a beautiful lady he will have to marry, and behind the other, a ferocious tiger that will kill him instantly. The twist? The princess knows the secret behind each door. Adapted from the popular short story by Frank R Stockton, The Lady or the Tiger has become a famous conundrum and an English expression for a problem that is unsolvable. This musical adaptation by Jeremy Paul, Michael Richmond and Nola York first premiered at the Orange Tree Theatre in 1975 playing to packed houses before transferring to the West End's Fortune Theatre.
