The Last Five Years

The Last Five YearsT103651724
The Last Five Years is a show about a marriage. It is told from two angles: from the man's point of view it starts at their first meeting and ends in the present, when the marriage breaks up. From the woman s point of view, it starts in the present and works back in time to the first meeting. Only at the wedding, in the centre of the piece, do the stories intersect. The relationship is between a 'nice Jewish boy' and an Christian girl in New York City. During a five year period, they fall in love, marry and their relationship gradually sours and they finally divorce.

User Review: 24Jul06: Overall this show was brilliant, however I think if you don't know the story in advance it might get confusing (due to it being told backwards and forwards at the same time). This show also has very little dialogue, with the songs expressing the feelings of the characters, which is where the show excels as JRB is an incredible songwriter (check out his next visit to the UK which is probably in December). Damian Humbley is very good, and delivers the comic lines with much more humour than on the OCR, and Lara Pulver's performance is just great all the way through - she will be on a much bigger stage before long. Overall, I had a wonderful time, the band and two leads perform JRB's songs exceptionally, and I'd recommend this show to anyone and everyone. (Please don't be put off by the bizarre double-headed rose poster used for promotion, which is quite tacky).
