The Wild Party! archiveQueenie was a blonde and her age stood still and she danced twice a day in Vaudeville ... Prohibition era Manhattan. Vaudeville dancer Queenie lives in a squalid apartment with Burrs, the clown whose act follows hers. Their violent and sexually charged relationship is destined to end in tragedy but to save themselves from facing grim reality they decide to throw a wild party for their flamboyant friends. The partying high-living-low-lives include good-time girl Kate and her new beau Black, lesbian Madeleine, Eddie and Mae, a boxer and his diminutive girlfriend, and musical composer brothers Oscar and Phil. Based on a steamy, jazz-age verse novel by Joseph Monclure March described as a feast of stunning imagery that evokes the innocence and decadence of the age, The Wild Party was a major popular and critical hit when it opened in New York in 2000.
