Tracing Shadows
As we journey into adulthood, we are taught to separate the imagination from reality, like learning right from wrong. The imagination is relegated to the world of children and madmen, and we move on. But where does the imagination go, do we just shut it up in a box, lock it in some hidden room, and forget it exists? And what are we to do if it starts to chatter to us through the keyhole and tries to get out? Helena Hunter reclaims the lost territory of the imagination, as she endeavours to unlock these hidden rooms and tightly shut boxes, to see what is inside. Drawing on the darker qualities of fairytale, and the symbolic language of myth, Helena creates her own tale of repression, recognition, and metamorphosis. This intensely imagined performance is a skilful blend of powerfully sculpted movement and fantastic storytelling, punctuated by projections, and a thrilling density of sound.
