Richard Rogers, a wise cracking, hard drinking retired teacher, has spent a lifetime trying to do the right thing and avoiding the criminal lifestyle of his parents. A failed and frustrated actor who turned to teaching after a couple of decades trying to hit the big time, he found to his surprise that he loved it. He had come home. But even in a school, corruption can find its way in. Richard finds himself embroiled in a plot to privatise and then sell the school with the profits going to the larger than life new head teacher and his cronies. It leads him down a very dark path indeed. A thought provoking, funny show, written and performed by Mike Venables, I Call the Shots explores issues surrounding power, corruption, sex and personal morality. And whisky. As Mike tells the story he assumes the characteristics of multiple characters each with their own unique mannerisms, accents and hats! You will be highly engaged, moved and made to think by this imaginative but very plausible yarn.
