Greece in Britain - T738044075Introducing Karagiosi - stage manager and interpreter of the tale of Odysseus, adventurer, wily Greek of legend and a man in search of his homeland. Andreas has a different odyssey in mind: his family's... His is the story of the Litras family; of the man who migrated to Australia after the Greek civil war, the Greek girl who left home to marry him in a foreign land, having seen only his photograph, and their son Andreas. Theirs is a tale of quiet domestic heroism, of hard work, fitting in and making do. The line between epic drama, Greek tragedy and comedy and the everyday almost disappears in this autobiographical work which cuts effortlessly between the two sagas of the search for home. The stagecraft is inventive, where a loo brush and a suitcase can become the Trojan horse or the possessions of a migrant. Litras plays a variety of characters: his father, his mother, himself, Karagiosi as well as the odd cyclops, shifting between them seamlessly.Company Anthos Theatre. Author Andreas Litras.
