The most famous artist of the 20th century, Picasso, stands blinking at the cameras on Sheffield station in mid-November 1950 wearing a blue beret and holding a bouquet of chrysanths. Fantasy? No! Picasso, a communist party member has come to Steel City to attend the Second World Peace congress. Prime Minister Attlee panics about the red menace and allows only one night of speeches in the City Hall. So Picasso takes centre stage.
