Details

Austrian composer Alexander Zemlinsky (1871 - 1942) used Oscar Wilde's unfinished play A Florentine Tragedy as libretto for his one-act opera, which was first performed on 30 January 1917 at Staatsoper Stuttgart. The opera is a psychological thriller which involves an erotic triangle of a woman, her husband and her lover. Their explosive encounter soon becomes a cat-and-mouse game, and when the tension erupts into violence, there can only be one winner.
