I masnadieri, the only opera by Verdi written for London, is based on Schiller's play Die Rauber. The premiere took place at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1847, following a commission by the impresario Benjamin Lumley.

Production details

Production new to the Royal Opera House. Supported by the Peter Moores Foundation. The production will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The score and orchestral material used by Verdi when he conducted the first performances have remained in London, and the edition that The Royal Opera has used for this production has been prepared by Edward Downes based on these manuscript materials.
