Lyrics by Janacek after Tesnohlidek, can also be translated as The Cunning Little Vixen. Inspired by a cartoon strip, and written between 1921 and 1923, this folk tale is by turns hilarious and savage. The opera tells the story of a young vixen who is captured by a gamekeeper but escapes back to the woods to find a mate herself and raise a litter.
