Based on Brian Merriman's The Midnight Court, a wildly famous Irish epic poem of 1780. The themes of this rambunctious and earthy tale include the plight of young women who lack husbands, clerical celibacy, free love and the misery of a young woman married to a withered old man. Toronto's Queen of Puddings Music Theatre takes an absorbing, fantastical approach to the tradition of classical opera, as John Hess and Dairine Ni Mheadhra blend their creative knowledge and vision with a challenging new aesthetic to produce original Canadian chamber opera.
