The Prisoner
T133504449
A mother, haunted by suffering, visits her son, imprisoned for his political beliefs. The prisoner desperately tries to hang onto faith and hope, and believes the gaoler offers the prospect of a life of happiness and children beyond the prison walls. The freedom offered by his 'brother' is an illusion, and hope an unexpected torture. First performed in 1949.
