Elephant - T254757066?Can we talk about the elephant in the room?' Hetain Patel and Shane Solanki make work about cultural identity, but they also cringe at the idea of making work about cultural identity. T01781079357An artist and a poet with Gujarati heritage use speech, film, music, physical theatre and comedy to explore communication and language. Visual artist Hetain Patel is a northerner from Bolton. Poet Shane Solanki is a southerner from London. Both share a Gujarati heritage, but neither can speak the language very well. This is their starting point. They try to match patterns from their daily lives with those from their guilty pleasures from pop culture. In this collaborative work in progress, the artists use humour to explore various modes of communication and mistranslation. | |
