3,000 Trees: The Death of Mr William MacRae archiveWillie MacRae - anti-nuclear campaigner, SNP politician, and successful lawyer, whose death prompted speculation that he was murdered by the state. MacRae was found dying in his car on a highland road in 1985 with a single gunshot wound to his head, apparently fired from his own gun. Was he under surveillance the day of his death? Did he die because of his investigation of the nuclear industry in Scotland or, as many now believe, because he was about to expose a sex abuse scandal at the heart of the establishment? With songs by Andy Paterson, this show was enjoyed a sell-out run at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe. it is a powerful and thought-provoking play, offering a reminder of darker political times, seen through the eyes of a troubled man.
