A Date with Carmen

A Date with CarmenT731264002
A quintessentially European story, Carmen is inspired by a Russian poem, written in French as a novella about a Spanish gypsy living across national borders, and adapted to become one of the world's most performed operas which was first produced in London. Our starting point was a newly commissioned adaptation of Merimee's novella by Saviana Stanescu and Kit Hesketh-Harvey. Each partner was then invited to re-imagine the story engaging through their expert art form and themes pertinent to them. This has given us a rich and original programme of startlingly different interpretations.
