Meyrick, the volatile owner of the bric-a-brac shop in Swansea, wields a curious influence over two young men - Johnnie, a man-child with a voice made in heaven who he found on the streets, and Leyton, a teenager, whose confusion and vulnerability holds the key to their ruin. But it is only after Speed, a compulsive gambler, chances upon their secrets and sets about blackmailing his way into some ill-deserved cash, that a comic nightmare unfolds.
