Band on the Run tells the story of a naive journey taken in the 1980s, by a bunch of mixed race musicians into the war zones of Southern Africa. Attempting to escape the military call up by apartheid south Africa's army, they find themselves in search of the promise of freedom from within the armed struggle. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. This story is told through the fragmented recollections and memories of a strange, old man - waking up in the middle of the night, by the urgent onset of a possibly fatal heart attack.
