Bonaventure archiveThe Play is set in a Norfolk Convent during the flood of 1947. Sister Mary Bonaventure is already questioning her religious vocation, when she finds herself, and her faith, challenged by the arrival of a convicted murderess. Sarat Carn is on her way to be hung for the murder of her brother, when she, together with two prison wardens, is stranded at the convent by the floodwater. Sister Mary is convinced of Sarat's innocence and the story follows her apparently hopeless attempts to clear Sarat's name and to save her from the hangman's noose.
