Boundaries 3: The House Next Door Just Fell Down
T0
A day of performed readings of cutting-edge contemporary plays from Albania and Macedonia. The Boundaries year at the Traverse looks at the many changing boundaries of the 21st century by hearing the plays emerging from our new and old worlds, and meeting with their authors to discuss their influences. How long can you live next door to a conflict and remain free of its dust? Up till now theatres have mostly shown plays emerging from the nations directly involved in the Balkan wars. The Traverse now offers a chance to experience more unknown territory: the newest work from playwrights working our of those nations just over the borders.
Disremember Me (17:00) - by Arben Kumbaro, translated by Vjollca Shtylla Mici. At times we would spend hours staring at each other from opposite sides of the river. I don't know if you can call that love....
Balkan is Not Dead (19:30) - by Dejan Dukovski. The latest play by this successful playwright, whose play
The Powder Keg has recently blazed through theatres throughout Europe.
Balkan is Not Dead opens at the National Theatre in Macedonia in September.
Encounter... - The readings will be followed by an
Encounter with the playwrights, chaired by Philippe Le Moine (former Producer at London's Gate Theatre, and director of the East Goes West Theatre Festival).
