An established art critic and collector has become unable to be moved by beauty. He can identify beauty as a twitcher might identify a bullfinch, but however much he desires, he cannot be moved by it. Desperate to feel, to live, he has become a vampire who sucks the souls of young artists from their canvasses before destroying them out of spite. The critic picks up a young man at a gallery opening, but unbeknown to the critic this is not chance meeting, and as the relationship develops we discover that the young man has good reasons for wanting revenge.
