Details

Caledonian Road archiveCaledonian Road is named after the road that links the King's Cross neighbourhood with Pentonville Prison, the Regents Canal and the site for the new Arsenal Stadium. It is based on interviews conducted with people who live and work on the road and examines their lives, hopes and fears. The first act will be performed in a converted warehouse in Camley Street. From there, the audience will be taken on a one mile walk to the Regent's Canal and into a park by the Caledonian Road for the final act. Throughout the journey the audience will be exposed to various surprises in what is not a traditional environment for theatre. The schoolchildren taking part in Caledonian Road will be taught how to use the intuitive ViewHear system to record their own personalised account of the rehearsal and creative process, learning about story-telling techniques, digital photography and the process of film-making. Working with a team from SmartLab (a research centre facilitating a range of linked projects using innovative digital technologies for site-specific art), each child will be assigned a role as director, actor, photographer or writer. They will then mix their own storyboards with their own sound tracks as the performance develops and rehearsal process progresses, and will archive those performances for mixing and replaying to their classmates. A promenade performance devised from interviews with the workers and residents of 'Cally' Road. No performance if bad weather.
