The true story of Albert Cashier: American Civil War veteran and transgender man. Aged 71, Albert is seeing out his last days in hospital - but the orderlies have discovered his secret: Albert was born a woman. Part stage production and part radio play, Cashiered looks back at Albert's fight to be recognised as a man and as a soldier, at a time when bigotry and bureaucracy threatened to rip away the life and identity he fought for.
