Cat Among the Pigeons

Lucette Gautier is a celebrated music hall star with a weakness for good-looking young men, one of whom, Fernand Bois d'Enghien, is well established as her favourite lover. However, Lucette attracts a throng of varied and obsessive admirers, each passionately determined to win her love or artistic patronage. Bois d'Enghien decides that the time has come to contract a respectable marriage. Lucette, of course, cannot live without him...George Feydeau's glorious, ruthless farce offers us a whirlwind picture of fin de siecle Paris, from the demi-monde of the chanteuse, to the respectable salons of the haute bourgeoisie, whose inhabitants are pole-axed by both desire and social ambition. The two worlds collide in a confusion of mistaken identity, slamming doors, and increasingly bad behaviour.
Author Georges Feydeau
