Josh's Dad Died when he was 11. Ollie's Dad came out as trans this year. They've both written beautiful shows about their experiences. But times are hard and neither of them can afford to do a full run at the theatre. So they've decided to do the shows at the same time anyway. What could go wrong?
Dead Dad Trans Dad is a satire of the Dead Dad show. It's a show that many of us have seen, an up beat comedy, often in direct address that slowly reveals the performer to have a deceased relative. They are often genuine and heart felt and frankly as someone with a dead dad, it is an incredibly cathartic experience to see one of these shows in order to feel less alone. However we live in a time when awards mean a potential jumpstart to a young graduate's comedy career, in which case having a dead relative is a fairly useful commodity. Olly's dad came out as trans this year and one of his first instincts was to turn the experience into a fringe show. Josh's dad died of motorneron disease when he was 11 and has been trying to turn his dad's death into a show for years. Both acts have accidentally double booked the space and have to make the best of a bad situation. Dead Dad Trans Dad aims to interrogate the line between emotional theatrical catharsis and trauma tourism.
