Dear Comrade archiveClaudia Jones was deported from America in the mid 1950s and sent to Britain. As Marcus Garvey before her, she had become a thorn in the side of the American establishment. In Britain, she become a pivotal mover of Carnival, recognising that it could become a socio-cultural and economic tool - that it could help change the antipathy of the British community towards Blacks in their midst.
