Farewell to the Theatre archiveA famous actress decides the time has come to retire. She talks to her lawyer about her reasons. They remember the past and contemplate the future. This extraordinary beautiful one-act play, written in 1916 when Granville-Barker was in America coincided with his disillusionment with the possibility for a progressive theatre in England. But it is also a plea for the enduring value of theatre.
