Friends of Narcissus archive After a storm, a mysterious boy is washed up on the beach. Soon everyone is tweeting, posting, and snapchatting about who he might be, and how beautiful he is. Champion surfer Echo falls head over heels in love - so does the whole town, the whole world! But the boy loves no-one except himself. Meanwhile, far away, a mother searches for her son Narcissus. Bravely, she finds her way to Poseidon's underworld, where she confronts the mermaids who have always wanted the beautiful boy for themselves. Friends of Narcissus is a story of our times - of social media promoting vanity and self love, and our 'true' selves remaining hidden - like the nymph Echo in her cave. This is an epic tale that mixes ancient mythology, local folklore and contemporary challenges into an exhilarating family show.
