House of America archiveA story of a family's battle against their own circumstances and the end of an American dream in a bypassed industrial town in south Wales in the 1980s. The Lewis family - Sid, Boyo and Gwenny, are left to look after their eccentric mother after their father heads over the pond and abandons them for the American dream. The children yearn to follow their father but their situation is pathetic as there is no work in the small town and their mother is determined that her sons will not work in the open cast coal mine that is casting its dark shadow over the family home. Rebelling against everyone with devastating consequences, Sid and Gwenny create a fantasy world which gets a little too close to the awful reality, while Mam, in her increasing agitation, has killed a cat and is descending further into madness. There's a secret, too.
