England 2008. The height of the Afghanistan conflict with heavy losses among British soldiers. Captain Agnes Bennett is an army notification officer, informing the family back home when a soldier dies in the field. For Agnes, this difficult and thankless job is a vocational calling and one that needs to be carried out dispassionately and with military planning. It's a duty that takes an enormous emotional toll. A raw young Private, Iain Maginnis, joins Agnes as she sets out to visit the parents of one of his platoon mates, killed in an I.E.D. attack. I.E.D. is about a woman trying to exist in a man's world, and what happens to her when she finds out she can be so easily undone. Not because she's not man enough, but because she's not woman enough.
