In Times of War archiveFirst performed in Chicago in 2006 the play received, among other awards, a Joseph Jefferson Citation for 'Outstanding New Work' in the 2006-2007 theatre season. The play, based in 1942, concerns a secret military commission set up by President Roosevelt to try eight German saboteurs who landed by u-boat on Long Island. Inspired by actual events, the play examines the uneasy balance between civil rights and security. It also explores the journey from mistrust to mutual respect made by the Jewish-American attorney assigned to represent the leader of the saboteurs and the leader himself - a German and a Nazi.
