Joey Boy archiveJoey Boy is the story of one mans journey from slavery to celebrity. Joseph Johnson was a merchant seaman in the 19th century until he was injured when his ship came under heavy canon fire. While living amongst the lowlife of London, Joey's natural dignity and artistic instincts drive him towards street performance and his alter ego Joey Boy. Through the use of song, speech and dance R:Evolve and Nu Century Arts take us on a stimulating journey of one mans struggle to find himself. This is a stimulating piece of black musical history that guarantees entertainment. Joey Boy is part of the evolved festival. The evolved festival aims to develop theatre pieces by and for culturally specific artists resident in the West Midlands.
