The year is 1974, five people in a New York bar explore their pasts from the heady days of the '60's. The characters trace, in alternating monologues, their rich, heroic and courageous lives. The violent death of John F Kennedy, the disintegration of America's Camelot and the Vietnam war which bled the nation leaving a disillusioned youth and unhealed wounds many for many Americans. Wanda, a secretary-turned-schoolmaster, has tried to follow JFK's Eternal Flame of idealism despite attempts to smear his name. Sparger, a flamboyant, dazzling actor, has grown cold and cynical watching New York's underground theatre movement go crazy and commercial. Rona, a political activist, sees her dreams vanishing. Mark a Vietnam veteran, has become a psychotic drug addict trying to understand the rights and wrongs of the war. Carla, a beautiful young aspiring actress who wanted to be the next Marilyn Monroe, traces with wit and courage the process by which she has become 'plaything' for producers and agents. Roma Tomelty leads a powerful company in this strident, funny and moving play marking the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F Kennedy.
