La Pucelle archivePromenade theatre that explores the brutality of war through the eyes of a child soldier. La Pucelle is loosely based on the historical tale of Saint Joan but places the story firmly in a contemporary environment. The background material for La Pucelle has been provided by various charities. It takes the form of testimonies from real child soldiers in the Congo, Sierra Leone, Bosnia and other conflicts. They found her, raped her, taught her and shaped her... then she became their leader. La Pucelle is the story of a young girl living in a beautiful, quiet village, with a loving family and a perfect life. It was about to change... War came and shattered her world. The soldiers arrived; they were loathsome and vulgar. They brutally murdered her parents, then dragged her kicking and screaming into their world. They left her with one choice; kill or be killed... She chose to kill. Come and witness this chilling, extraordinary account of a girl fuelled by her religion, and watch her journey, as she becomes an iconic hero and leader of men. Experience the loneliness and fear that shaped a Child Soldier, and be part of the biggest fight of her life. Watch as we question her insanity, accuse her of crimes against humanity and witness her declare her unconditional love of God. Come and watch her tragic downfall and stubborn refusal to break against all odds. In this intriguing and moving tale we ask you the audience to decide if La Pucelle is a brutal murderer, a master warrior, an iconic leader or just an innocent child who became a victim of war.
