Professor Leopold Nettles, who has written 'that' and now lives in fear of being taken away 'there' by 'them'. He lives in dread of the knock on the door. He finds himself unable to concentrate: to work, eat or sleep. Will he be forced to make a stand? It is a confrontation that will potentially define his life and work.
