Less Than A Year tells a beautifully balanced story of a couple attempting to deal with the trials and tribulations of the health service in Ireland, before their teenage daughter finally succumbs to a rare form of cancer. The story relates their experience from the time of their daughter's diagnosis to her death ten months later. The writing style is inspired by a form of documentary theatre known as Theatre of Testimony where real people's words inform the writing. The script incorporates material directly from the transcript of an interview that Enright conducted with a couple whose daughter died from Ewing's Sarcoma. Less Than A Year was first produced in Limerick by Island Theatre Company in November 2006 and embarked on a short Irish tour in February 2007.
