Macy's Department Store have a brand new Santa Claus: an elderly gentleman called Kris Kringle, who proves a big hit. Other stores are jealous of Macy's success, and try to get Kris committed to a sanatorium. In the resulting court battle, the spirit of Christmas is on trial along with everyone's right to believe in Santa.
