Mother's Day archiveA bittersweet exploration of the 21st Century British nuclear family from the acclaimed writer of the best-selling novels The Scholar, Society Within and Snakeskin, the plays Women of Troy and The Far Side, and the co-editor of The Penguin Book of New Black Writing in Britain ('Sharp and relevant - The Face). It s the day of Benny s funeral. Juanita had left Benny, her husband, and Davey, their son, almost ten years ago. Benny had met Lynda and her disabled son Samuel soon afterwards, merging backgrounds and cultures into one family unit. Now Benny is dead, the preparations for his funeral are underway, the family are grieving, and Lynda is struggling to maintain her formerly ordered home. Just when she begins to believe she can pull them all through, Juanita arrives on her doorstep - a stranger to everyone except Davey.
