In the mid fifties, a young lad from North Shields called Arthur McKenzie stumbled by sheer accident into the Newcastle City Police Force. In his time he dealt with vice, drugs and serious crime, rising to the rank of Detective Inspector, but his happiest times by far were as a beat man 'paddling the patch'.
