Scottish Widows archiveScottish Widows is written as a series of four monologues set in Scotland and based round the theme of widowhood, this is a work - counter-intuitively perhaps - full of humour, as well as one that explores the heartbreak involved in losing a husband or wife. It is also one of those rare modern plays that examines the lives (including the sex lives) of those elderly women and men who increasingly make up such an important part of our world, dealing as it does with profound issues of love, friendship, families and loss later in life. But while Scottish Widows is a play about death - how could it not be - it is also deeply life-affirming: its stories show us how in the face of sometimes terrible grief we must keep going, moving forward.
