Shakespeare Mus'd archiveIn search of the man and muse behind Shakespeare's rise to fame, three actors bring to life the material that inspired him - the work of John Florio and Michel de Montaigne. In his early work Shakespeare quotes from John Florio's books used for teaching Italian to English nobles. These books were being translated for the first time and gentlemen like the 19 year old third Earl of Southampton were greatly influenced by them. In Jonathan Bate's book ?The Genius of Shakespeare' he suggests that Shakespeare's Dark Lady was indeed Florio's wife Aline Daniel, sister to poet Samuel Daniel.
