Somewhere in England archiveJoin us for a specially commissioned production exploring and celebrating the rich history of Bedford and its most famous citizens as we take a stroll through 850 years of Bedford's past. The play's title ?Somewhere in England' (The Bedford Play), is a reference to the BBC's live broadcasts from Bedford (and particularly Bedford School) during the Second World War. The town's true identity had to remain a secret to avoid being bombed by Hitler's Luftwaffe and so the broadcasts were always announced as being live "from somewhere in England". The play uncovers the lives of key Bedfordians, its connections with famous people and the stories behind some of the town's iconic landmarks.
