Portrayals of loving black adults are rare on the British stage. Media images dominated by the 'bling bling' culture of violence, discord and disrespect between heterosexual black couples are far more commonplace. Sweet Yam Kisses is a necessary response to the negative portrayal by mass media of 'black love'.
