The 43 Club archiveSet in the decadent hedonism of 1920's London, THE 43 CLUB is the inspiring true story of Kate Meyrick, dubbed by the press, "the most dangerous woman in London". Leaving her unfaithful husband, Kate arrives in Soho with the task of supporting eight children. Running a nightclub is just the job for a free-spirited independent woman, but to puritanical Home Secretary William Joynson-Hicks, Kate is the embodiment of the immorality and decadence of the jazz age. He wages a personal vendetta against Kate and the 43 is subjected to undercover police raids. Kate serves four terms of imprisonment for serving drinks out of hours. The answer to her problems is suave but corrupt police Sergeant George Goddard. Romance develops and Kate agrees to pay George protection money in return for advance warnings of the raids. Then a fellow officer rumbles George. Kate serves 15 month's hard labour for bribing a police officer, but despite all these setbacks she emerges victorious to become the Queen of London's nightclubs. Devilishly funny and heart-warming, with a sparkling book, music and lyrics by long term collaborators Kenneth Clarke and Richard Daniels, The 43 CLUB serves up a heady cocktail of laughs, drama and surprises!
